Biography
Mr. Godkin is a founding member of Birnbaum & Godkin, LLP, Boston, from 2005 concentrating in business litigation and intellectual property litigation. Prior to that, Mr. Godkin was a Business Litigation Partner and Intellectual Property Litigation Partner in Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP from 1989 to 2005, and associate attorney from 1987 to 1988. Prior to that, Mr. Godkin practiced as associate attorney at McCabe/Gordon (litigation boutique) and Hale and Dorr’s Litigation Department. Mr. Godkin is admitted to Massachusetts, U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts, U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit, Federal Circuit, and Second Circuit.
Mr. Godkin is also an experienced arbitrator, and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial and Employment Panels, the FINRA Arbitration Panel, and the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals. He has served as sole arbitrator and member of panel, including as panel chair, in numerous domestic and international cases, including, for example, claims involving employment agreements, franchise agreements, joint venture agreements, disputes among members of limited liability corporations and limited partnerships, various software applications, theft of trade secrets, and claims under the Massachusetts Wage and Hour Statute.
Mr. Godkin holds the highest (AV) rating given by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He has been selected as a “Massachusetts Super Lawyer” each year since 2004, based on ballots sent to 37,000 attorneys across Massachusetts by Law & Politics Magazine. Mr. Godkin received his J.D. magna cum laude from Georgetown University, J.D., and his B.A. magna cum laude from University of Vermont.
