Biography
Mr. Akabas is a founder and partner of Akabas & Sproule, a commercial law firm based in Manhattan, with offices in New Jersey, that represents start-up, small and medium sized companies as their general outside counsel in a wide variety of industries.
Mr. Akabas has worked on matters in finance, securities, real estate, contracts and corporate governance for more than 30 years. His clients and work range across industries, including retail, manufacturing, food & beverage, technology, and finance. Prior to founding Akabas & Sproule, Mr. Akabas served as a law clerk to Judge David N. Edelstein, Southern District of New York, and as an associate at the firms of O’Melveny and Meyers, then the largest firm in the world, and Spengler Carlson Gubar Brodsky & Frischling.
Mr. Akabas also has served and serves on the board of directors of numerous commercial and not-for-profit enterprises. He is an “AV Preeminent” attorney, the “highest peer rating standard” on Martindale-Hubbell with 5 out of 5 stars in peer review.
Mr. Akabas graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. degree in economics with honors and from Columbia University Law School with a J.D. degree, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and from Columbia University School of Journalism with an MS degree.
